June KnitCrate

I’m “diving” right into this gorgeous Vidalana yarn featured in this month’s original member crate from Knit Crate. It’s the perfect mermaid green-blue and pairs beautifully with the “Minty Fresh” shawl pattern—also included this month!

Check out the video below for a fun unboxing and review!

Knit Crate : A Love Letter

Dear Knit Crate,

You've broadened my yarn horizons.

You offer people amazing value on amazing yarn.

You constantly surprise me with what is in your sweet teal crate each month.

Every month, without fail, you deliver. I open my mailbox, bracing myself for the drudgery of bills and junk mail to find a package of yarn heaven.

You're kind of one of the best relationships I've ever had.

For the month of May, the theme is “Contemporary.”

Inspired by masculine color palettes and easy going classic textures, like linen and leather, we are sure you will love this month's colors!

I received the original membership which had two skeins of this La Brebis fingering weight yarn in the Gray Twist colorway. It’s a blend of merino, wool, and nylon in a fun marled effect that pairs perfectly with the two patterns featured in this month’s crate. One is a knit shawl by Susanne Hogl called Daxis and the other is a crocheted cabled clutch by Marie Segares.

KNITCRATE : April 2018

This month’s theme from KnitCrate is “Golden Hour.” Subscribers of the original KnitCrate membership will get one of four sunset toned colorways, inspired by the glowing golden hour over the western desert. I received this vibrant red and, the gardener in me can’t help but think of plump, juicy tomatoes!  (SO ready for warmer weather, aren’t you!?)⠀

More about the KnitCrate membership:⠀
For only $24.99 per month, you’ll receive 2 skeins of premium yarn, 1 crochet pattern, 1 knitting pattern and FREE shipping worldwide (that's a value of over $60). KNITCRATE : February - Petrichor

In the last five to eight years, I learned the word petrichor and it became in instant favorite. It is defined as "a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather." Everyone knows this experience and you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't smile at the thought of it. For their February theme, KnitCrate has gone with this word. The yarns members receive this month are deeply saturated blues and greens on Knitologie's new base Glowing Worsted which consists of a luxurious 40% merino, 30% silk and 30% alpaca. Each original KnitCrate membership kit includes two skeins of one of three colors: Mist, Raindrops, and, the one I received, the deep emerald Verdant (which sings to this May born gal!)

The kit also includes two cowl patterns--one knit and one crochet. Although we've had some teasing days, Spring is still a little ways away for those of us in the North East, so a cowl is still an accessory to grab when heading out the door.

In addition, you also receive exclusive coupon codes and discount offers.

You can get your hands on this yarn by signing up here. The original KnitCrate membership is valued at $63 but you only pay $24.95. This includes everything I mentioned above AND worldwide shipping. You pay month to month and can cancel or switch your membership (they offer other fun crate subscriptions as well!) at any time. Be sure to use the code BUCK20 to receive 20% off your first month.

KnitCrate has posted a blog entry addressing a concern some members have had with their February yarns bleeding here. It's not uncommon with such deep, heavily saturated colors of indie dyed yarn. When it comes to indigo, they use the term "crocking." It's basically excess dye that didn't affix to the fiber. This post does an awesome job of addressing the issue and how to deal with it.
